Elections May 2019

Elections will be held on 2 May 2019 for District and Parish Councils.  We hope the following information will be of assistance for those considering standing for the Parish Council.  Newland Parish Council consists of 9 Councillors; we are aware that at least 3 of the current membership will not be seeking re-election.

Eligibility 

1. Aged 18 years or over

2. Either

   (a) be an elector ie on the Electoral Register, or

   (b) have resided in the locality, or within 3 miles of it, or occupied as owner or tenant any          land or premises, or have had your only or principle place of work:  

      (i) during the whole of the 12 months before the day on which he is nominated as a                    Councillor, or

      (ii) during the whole of the 12 months before the day of the election

Disqualification (a summary)

1. If subject to a bankruptcy restrictions order / interim order / debt relief restrictions order / interim order generally within the last 12 months

2. Within the last 5 years been convicted of any offence and sentenced to not less than 3 months imprisonment (whether suspended or not), without the option of a fine 

3. Convicted of an offence involving corrupt or illegal practices

4. Convicted for failure to register or declare disclosable interests under the Localism Act 2011. 

Timetable (a summary)

19 March - nominations open.

(A limited supply of nomination papers will be available from the Clerk by 1 March, also available from FODDC Offices in Coleford)

3 April - nominations close.  PLEASE NOTE: nominations papers must be delivered in person the The Returning Officer at the Council Offices in Coleford on or after 19 March but no later than 4:00pm on Wednesday 3 April.
